DAY 1: CONNECT WITH WATER
Looking up close at many known and unknown facets of water. An introduction of what role water plays in our lives. An interactive session with PHD Chambers head Ms. Sushmita Shekhar who has a special connect with water as a resource and took the children up close to what water means to seventy percent of our population, rural dwellers. A fun activity of painting tiles in hues of blue with a message to save water was a fun take away of the day
DAY 2: WATER IN HISTORY
How does water connect with time. We flick a finger and can easily access water in our homes today, but was it the same in history? We give no importance to the use and protection of water as a resource but in history water took one of the prime positions in human activity. A stepped well Agrasen ki baoli in the heart of the city was like a jewel which surprised the children. It gave them a great insight into the way human beings interacted with water including a touch of history, culture and heritage.
DAY 3: AGONY OF WATER
A most memorable day with a real experience of what each child reads in books and textbooks. It was about the abuse of water at human hands. To see, feel and experience the river that runs through our city - The Yamuna. The first part of the excursion was to the river front before it enters Delhi, on the outskirts in Haryana. The second part was within Delhi where the children actually saw the huge pipes spewing sewage into the river, the water black and completely dead and poisoned. The children saw a hard hitting, live and real picture of what human selfishness is capable of humans.
DAY 4: A NEW LOOK AT WATER
A day to summarize the experience of water, its role in our lives historically, its importance, its care and what role individuals can play to be sensitive and spread awareness to others around. The fun activity of the day was an exercise in observation and putting together a scaled model of the Agrasen Baoli. They made the model out of a kit of parts to assemble. Take away a feeling of responsibility towards this amazing resource gifted to us, Water.
