An introduction into the idea of observing the sometimes unseen natural world around us. Parents and children joint session touched upon the goal of the workshop with the help of a visual presentation and highly interactive session which acted as an ice breaker. Culmination was with an enjoyable session of Bubble Painting which ignited the curiosity and creativity of all, with the fun of soap bubble making and colourful paint.

INDIGO WITH KUSUM

This was a day of learning about the role of colors in the real world specially in traditional Indian context . A session with an expert working in the field with Fab India and other brands. Ms. Kusum Tiwari a leading practitioner of Natural dyes with a specialization in traditional Indigo dyeing gave a live demonstration. To see her work and hear about how a plant based material can produce such brilliant colours was a highlight. They dyed cloth to be used in further sessions.

COLOURS IN THE KITCHEN

Secrets of nature hiding in our kitchens was a real highlight for the young minds. Dyes were created with turmeric, onion, tesu flowers, henna, tea, coffee and many more. These things of daily use were transformed into colour factories and to make it more tactile, we dyed hand made paper of different sizes. The children had their own kit of pieces of paper to experiment on and deeply immerse in the exciting activity. They created coloured paper to make cards and book marks.

IMPRINTS OF NATURE WITH ADITI

The beautiful patterns of nature around us are often illusive. This day introduced the art of traditional block printing and understanding colours and their language. An amazing session by designer and owner of accessory brand “Pure Ghee” Aditi Prakash took the children on a dialogue with colours, cool colours, hot colours and how they speak to each other. Amalgamating both these concepts to create prints on the paper and cloth dyed in previous sessions were made into cloth bags and table runners or cards and greeting notes.

US FOR THEM

Usable craft products like bags, table runners, cards and visiting were made of all the paper and cloth treated in previous sessions. The collection of created items made by the children were put up for a charity sale. Proceeds of this went to a charitable NGO under Ms. Sushmita Shekhar in Udaipur, which works with under privileged village children. A sensitization about the contribution each individual is capable of making towards others. The ability to work hard on something and then give it away. A precious life skill from the first ways of seeing workshop.
