The centrum club at Lucknow is a multifaceted hospitality destination which combines the grandeur of a ceremonial hall and the connectedness to nature of a resort. It is the coming together of multiple spaces and functions under one roof. The space thus created had to have something for everyone. It has the common thread of a connectivity with inspirations taken from traditional elements of Lucknow. A look into the past and its endless treasures of beautiful nuances.
As architects and Interior designers for the project, the design process was seamless and fulfilling. We trace the inspirations and design nuances of the project which is nearing completion.
The soul of the project is its dialogue with context and the rootedness. Inspirations from the rich textured past were the entire underlying design layer from the spatial quality of space inspired from the traditional elements like archways and jaalis to the fine embellishment on the soft furnishings inspired from the craft of Chikankari, all from Lucknow.
The language of design is modern and universal yet the soul very rooted to Indian sensibilities.
All material selections were local and regional with keen emphasis on encouraging local crafts like Chinhat pottery which are dead and obsolete.
The story of Centrum is also a story of a revival of our rich heritage buried in the past. A story retold in a different language.
